DEPARTMENT OF OHIO
SONS OF UNION VETERANS OF THE CIVIL WAR
DEPARTMENT ORDERS #2
HEADQUARTERS ROCKY RIVER, OHIO
I am pleased to report that many of our goals have been accomplished thus far this year. It has been exciting and wonderful traveling around the state to visit the many camps and see the wonderful work going on. Sometimes in a very quiet way.
Brother Wayne Lowery has announced his retirement at the next Department Encampment, as Graves Registration Officer, after many, many years and thousands of names entered into the database. Although we are happy for Wayne we hate to lose such a good Brother in this all-important job. If you are interested in this position please let Brother Brad Tilton or I know as soon as possible, so we can plan for the Department Encampment.
18, 19 AND 20 June 2004, at Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio. All camps should plan on sending at least one representative. Several positions are open this year, and I encourage all brothers to consider attending at least one department encampment during your membership in our noble order. Contact Dept. Secretary Richard Greenwalt for further details.
I am very proud of the accomplishments of our Department Signals Officer, Brother Ken Freshley. Ken has done an outstanding job in this venue. I wish to "Thank" all of you in the Camps who are making our "Camp Calendar" section grow every day. However..... We need more camps to send their newsletters to Ken so we can `Post um" online. (Note, all financial information will be removed before posting)
Speaking of Websites, Log onto http://www.loc.govfvets This is an Oral History Website and explains how to conduct, gather and finalize an Oral History project.
OHIO VETERANS HOME
Brother Mark Britton presented a check for $100.00 and a box of donated clothing to the OVH as Chairman of the Christmas Committee on behalf of the Ohio Department. Mark is busy collecting funds for use next Christmas. Please do not forget our veterans at the home. They can use our help.
Please do not forget our other funds, Department Chief of Staff Fund and the Patriotic Instructors Fund.
To date 3 special orders have been issued since the last Department Order was issued;
1.) Bro. James Oiler to Organize Cadot-Blessing Camp # 126 in Gallipolis
2.) Bro. James Oiler to approve Constitution & Bylaws of Camp #126
3.) Bro. Warren Gentzel and the Brothers of Groce Post Camp # 156 for return of the Charter for this dropped camp, as required per C & Rs.
