Department Order No. 2
Series 2005-2006
Brothers of the Department of Ohio;
It is my sincere hope that everyone has a safe and joyous holiday season.
New Camp Officers
In accordance with our Constitution and Regulations, all Camps should install their new Officers by the end of January. Camp Secretaries are reminded to submit Form #22 to the Department Secretary David Medert by February 1st.
Annual Report
Camp Secretaries are also reminded that your Camp Annual Report (Form 27) is due to Department Secretary, Dave Medert, by April 30. Please include a complete roster of all camp members and their annual per capita dues. National dues are $18 and Department dues are $4. After the Annual Report is submitted, membership status changes should be reported to the Department Secretary with Form 30 by the 15th of the month after the change occurs. Dues for new members are pro-rated by quarter.
Mid-Winter Meeting
The mid-winter meeting is scheduled for January 14, 2006 at Veterans Memorial Room 205 on West Broad Street in Columbus. The Department Council meeting scheduled for 9:00 a.m. There is a By-Law change meeting at 9:30 a. m. followed by the Mid-Winter meeting at 10:15 a. m.. No business may be transacted, however, we will be giving reports, making plans, and taking suggestions for the Ohio Department. All brothers are encouraged to attend. All Department Officers and Committee Chairmen are asked to give a brief report. If you are unable to attend, please forward your report to me before the meeting.
After the Mid-Winter meeting there will be a Memorial Service for Esther Pieper, mother of Sarah Cherry. I hope all Brothers will attend. Esther Pieper was very active in the Auxillary and has contributed much to that organization as well as the SUV she will be sorely missed.
In keeping with the C & R there will be a separate Special Order #3 covering the By Law changes.
As has been the tradition in years past the Ladies Auxillary will be serving a lunch, please place a donation in the container to help them recover some of the cost. This service they provide to the Ohio Department is very much appreciated.
Lincoln’s Birthday
February 12, 2006 will mark the 197th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. All camps are encouraged to honor our 16th President in some way. Many camps have a special dinner in remembrance. If your camp does not have a remembrance dinner please try to attend one of the other Camps that do.
Memorial Day Petition
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is very active in getting petitions signed in moving Memorial Day back to the original date of May 30th. This will be a very hard fight and we need all the signatures we can get. Please go to the National webpage and sign the petition online. The link is provided on the first page.
