Department Order No. 4

Series 2005-2006

Brothers of the Department of Ohio;

1.      It is with deep regret that I must inform you that Disciplinary Proceedings have been commenced against PDC Keith D. Ashley, a member in good standing and Secretary/Treasurer of Brooks Grant Camp No. 7, Department of Ohio, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

2.      As so provided by Chapter V, Article VI, Section 8 of the Regulations of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, a Hearing Council was appointed consisting of Brothers Thomas E. Frye (Camp # 142), Tim Graham (Camp # 142), James E. Hilton (Camp #1), David E. McMahon (Camp # 1), James R. Seitz (Camp # 1), James R. Shanks (Camp # 66) and Henry E. Shaw, Jr. (Camp # 73).  The Hearing Council designated Brother Shaw as Hearing Council Chairman.

3.      Under date of May 15, 2006, the Hearing Council scheduled a Disciplinary Hearing to be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. in Room 205, Veterans Memorial, 300 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio, with Notice being given to PDC Ashley by means of certified and regular mail on May 15, 2006.

4.      By letter dated May 19, 2006, PDC Ashley requested that a new Hearing date be chosen, setting out a variety of reasons.

5.      Although the Hearing Council has not yet acted upon PDC Ashley’s request, the Hearing may be delayed until sometime after July 22, 2006.

6.      In the interim, it is my belief that I must take certain action as authorized by the Regulations of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, to be effective until such time as the Disciplinary Proceedings take place and the Hearing Council makes its Decision.

7.      As so provided by the first sentence of Chapter V, Article VI, Section 15 of the Regulations of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, PDC Keith D. Ashley is suspended from the office of Secretary/Treasurer of Brooks-Grant Camp No. 7, Department of Ohio, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and from any other  elected or appointed office which he may hold, either in his own Camp or at the Department of Ohio level.  This suspension shall be in effect until such time as the Disciplinary Proceedings take place and the Hearing Council makes its Decision.

8.      On or before Saturday, May 27, 2006, PDC Keith D. Ashley shall surrender all books, records, papers and the like and all Camp funds to the Commander of Brooks-Grant Camp No. 7 until the office of Secretary/Treasurer is filled as so provided by Section 15.

9.      Commencing on Saturday, May 27, 2006 and until such time as the Disciplinary Proceedings take place and the Hearing Council makes its Decision, PDC Keith D. Ashley shall not act as a representative of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, either for his own Camp or the Department of Ohio, at any public or private event.
