McLaughlin Camp 12
On May 26,2003 members of McLaughlin Camp 12 participated in the dedication of a plaque to honor the eight Richland County residents who have received the Medal of Honor.
A short biography and Medal of Honor citation of each recipient was presented to the crowd. Kent Dorr, PCC presented David L. Cockley, Company L, 10th Ohio Cavalry, Bruce Phipps, PCC presented Joseph S. Hedges, 4th U.S. Cavalry, Randy Echelberger, PCC presented Smith Larimer, Company G, 2nd Ohio Cavalry, Ralph Shadel, PDC presented John Henry Ricksecker Company D, 104th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, George Knell, PCC presented James Wiley, Company B, 59th New York Infantry all from the Civil War. Brad Tilton DJVC presented Matthias Walter Day and John F. Rowalt of the Indian Wars. Joint Veterans Council Commander, Larry Moore, presented David Francis Winder, who was killed in action in Vietnam.
The bronze plaque is located on the Richland County Courthouse lawn and was an Ohio Bicentennial project sponsored by the Richland County Joint Veterans Council
