OHIO DEPARTMENT Recommendations and Resolutions passed at the 118th Ohio Encampment, June 16, 17, 18, 2000
Mt Union College, Alliance, Ohio

Recommendations

Outgoing Department Commander David V. Medert

1) For many years we have discussed the return of the Ohio Department Membership Listing
This can only be accomplished with the aid of all camps. It was requested in the Department Orders and approved recommendations from previous encampments and Department Commanders that all camps submit a typed roster of their camps to the Department Secretary and Assistant Department Secretary.

Therefore recommend that all camps submit a current roster to the above no later than 1 August 2000.
PASSED

2) In order to provide all camps with current and proposed information in a timely manner, it was recommended and approved at the 117th Ohio Department Encampment that all camps provide email contacts to the Department Commander, Secretary and Assistant Secretary. Not all camps have complied with this recommendation.

Therefore recommend that all camps provide an email contact to the above no later than 1 August, 2000.
PASSED

3) Recommend that all camps when submitting rosters to the aforementioned officers, include email addresses of Brothers having such.
PASSED-Adding "With Brothers permission"

4) In order to keep the Ohio Department Web Site current, recommend that camps provide the Department Communications Officer updates regarding officers and points of contacts. Those camps having web sites should inform the Communications Officer of their site so he can provide a link to it.
PASSED

5) Many times, Departments and National are requested to provide an Honor Guard for the services of a deceased Brother. This has resulted in Department Commanders scrambling to identify an Honor Guard and have them in place for the ceremony. Often this cannot be accomplished.

Therefore recommend the formation of area Honor Guards who would be willing to conduct services for passing brothers.
PASSED-Incoming Commander to work on details

Secretary/Treasurer Richard Greenwalt

Brother Greenwalt asks that all camps get their quarterly reports in to him before the 15th of the month so that he can compile his report to the National Secretary. ALL CAMP SECRETARIES PLEASE COMPLY!

GAR Hwy Officer and Dept Commanders Aide Jon B. Silvis

1) Recommend that all camps be instructed to start a letter writing campaign to each of the cities along route six to post appropriate signs.
PASSED-With can be encouraged rather than instructed

2) That a manufacturer for these signs be contacted for a price quote and that a sufficient number of signs be procured so as to at least place 1 sign at each county boundary along this route.
PASSED-With get price quotes for signs

4) Whereas; the Amendment to the U. S. Constitution has been before us several times over the past few years to protect the Untied States Flag from desecration.

And

Whereas; an amendment to the U. S. Constitution is always accompanied by specific legislation to interpret that amendment.

Whereas; the United States Flag Code does not permit placement of any wording on the U.S. Flag.

Whereas; Flags of the Civil War did contain names of battles, regiments, states and so forth.

And

Whereas; Civil War re-enactors need to be able to re-create flags of the Civil War in order to re-enact Civil War units and Civil War battles.

And

Whereas; The Allied Orders of the Grand Army of the Republic need to be allowed by law to place their names and numbers on the U.S. Flag in the custom of The Grand Army of the Republic.
